PittMoss

PittMoss

PittMoss is made from organic, recycled paper that is carefully and locally sourced.  This paper is engineered to provide the perfect environment for root development.  PittMoss has the best possible balance of aeration and water absorption with a vast carbon source for mycorrhizae.  Blending into distressed and damaged native soil makes it possible for the soil to come alive again.  This air space, water reserve and available carbon makes for exceptional root development and the best environment for those roots to obtain water and nutrients while the microbes thrive to further support the plants.  With PittMoss, you’ll see:

  • Bigger blooms with while watering & fertilizing less
  • Healthier plants & reduced root shock
  • Easier turf establishment & overall better soil health

HOW TO USE PITTMOSS FOR LANDSCAPING

New Plantings:  Because of the intense effectiveness of the PittMoss, it is suggested that a mixture of 1 volume of PittMoss with 2 volumes of native soil (removed from hole), be mixed and placed in the hole below and around the roots to fill the hole.  This can be increased to a 1:1 volume ratio in tougher soil conditions.  PittMoss is loftier than other soils, so when back-filing the hole, you want to compact the soil as you go.

Turf Establishment:  PittMoss, with its wettability, keeps the moisture in intimate contact with the seed.  For best results, blend 1:1 mix of grass seed and PittMoss.  Lightly till into existing soil and water.  In severe conditions, top with a thin layer of PittMoss.  Hydro-seeding with PittMoss is also an option.

Mulching:  In tough soil conditions, we recommend the “Soil-PittMoss” (see New Plantings above) mixture as a mulch since it easily absorbs rain and applied water readily.  When dry, PittMoss forms a thin layer, or “crust” to protect against evaporation and drying.  PittMoss also contours to the land’s surface, staying put on steep hills and in harsh weather conditions.
